Introducing Justin Russo, the Australian Government Department of Finance’s new digital lead
Justin Russo is the new digital lead for the Australian Government Department of Finance, and he’s here to help you online.
Russo has more than 10 years of experience working in digital marketing, most recently as director of digital strategy and operations for a Sydney-based media agency. In this role, he led the development and implementation of digital marketing plans for clients including Telstra, BHP Billiton and Westpac.
He also holds a degree in journalism from Monash University, and has worked as a journalist for publications including The Age, Crikey and The Drum. Russo is excited to join the team at the Department of Finance, where he’ll be responsible for developing and executing digital marketing strategies that support the department’s mandate.
Russo’s background and experience in the Department of Finance
Russo’s background and experience in the Department of Finance make her an excellent candidate for the role of Deputy Minister of Finance. Russo has worked in a number of finance-related roles, including at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and as a consultant with Ernst & Young. She has also held various positions in the Australian Federal Police, including serving as deputy commissioner. Russo’s experience in finance and law enforcement will be invaluable to the Department of Finance.
Russo’s goals for the Department of Finance’s digital team
In his first few months as the new Minister for Finance, Justin Russo has made it clear that he plans to make the Department of Finance’s digital team one of the most important parts of the department. Russo has outlined four goals for the team: to improve customer engagement and online services, to develop innovative financial technology, to increase government transparency and accountability, and to support economic growth.
The digital team is already making a big impact on government services. For example, they developed a new online service called MyGov which lets citizens access their tax information, pay their bills, and more. The team is also working on a new digital platform that will let businesses electronically submit tax returns. And they’re developing innovative financial technology like a mobile app that can help people save for retirement.
Government transparency and accountability are also priorities for Russo. For example, he wants to make sure that all government information is available in a user-friendly format online so that everyone can access it. And he plans to increase government transparency by releasing more data in machine-readable formats. Finally, he wants to improve government efficiency by using technology to automate tasks and reduce bureaucracy.
